SOUTHAMPTON FOOTBALL CLUB

Enamelled and acid etched glass,
Architects: Barr Associates
Photographer: Joe Low

A large red football player is made up of dot matrix enamel fired onto the outer glass pane, this allows the image to be seen from outside the building yet retain uninterrupted views from inside the building. From the inside of the building the design contains images and text sandblasted and acid etched onto the glass surface: a late 19th Century map of the St Mary's area including the site of the new stadium, a fragment from an account of the inaugural meeting of the Football Club, and a Saxon coin unearthed during excavations prior to the stadium building work.
